Your World

Being an enthusiast of fantasy and sci-fi material more than often comes with the urge to create your own made up world. I myself have come up with a few, and am using them for various projects. For example, I'm using an immense continent I created called Marinian for a book I intend to write. (I also created a language for it called Marinal as well... Hey, I'm a big Tolkien fan!) I'm also using that same world for a video game that's in the works. Another story I'm working on is what I'm calling a "Theological Fantasy," where I'm designing a detailed and fully immersive version of Hell to journey into the concepts surrounding religion and the Christian ideas of sin, demons, Satan, Grace, and redemption...

ANYWAY

I'm curious as to if any of you have worlds you've worked on and would like to share! Did you ever spend weeks in your room creating the fantasy/sci-fi universe of your dreams? Did you make characters for it? What were some characteristics about your world and what made it special to you?

I'd love to hear what you've made!

  1. My friend and I wrote a story together a couple years back. It was a pretty broad fantasy world, but we tried to make it both believable as well as having room to do whatever we wanted. (We literally did whatever we wanted. For example, when we wrote ourselves into a corner, our characters escaped by riding a zombie horse out of a window.) Her and I still laugh over this story and our characters to this day.
