If you're looking for some awesome inspiration for a deep space sci-fi story, or even just some ideas on making good female lead characters, then look no further than the Metroid series!

The games are a grand experience while the story and lore are far more adult in nature if you look into them. It includes themes ranging from biological warfare to planetary annihilation and species extinction. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus HD Trailer

Here's something I could never hold back. Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite single game of all time. I could sing the praises of this game all day, but I'll give you the short version without spoilers...

Tip Series?

I'm thinking I'll be doing a short series relating to the creation of fantasy stories... Something like tips on world building, character creation/development, themes, or something along those lines.

I'll keep you posted!

Your World

Being an enthusiast of fantasy and sci-fi material more than often comes with the urge to create your own made up world. I myself have come up with a few, and am using them for various projects. For example, I'm using an immense continent I created called Marinian for a book I intend to write. (I also created a language for it called Marinal as well... Hey, I'm a big Tolkien fan!) I'm also using that same world for a video game that's in the works. Another story I'm working on is what I'm calling a "Theological Fantasy," where I'm designing a detailed and fully immersive version of Hell to journey into the concepts surrounding religion and the Christian ideas of sin, demons, Satan, Grace, and redemption...

ANYWAY

I'm curious as to if any of you have worlds you've worked on and would like to share! Did you ever spend weeks in your room creating the fantasy/sci-fi universe of your dreams? Did you make characters for it? What were some characteristics about your world and what made it special to you?

I'd love to hear what you've made!

This album doesn't necessarily tell a story, but adventure is all in the mind right? And that's where it comes in. A brilliant concept album surrounding the idea of going deeper into the sea. Now, there is a version of this with vocals, however this was how the album was originally meant to be released and I personally find a greater connection with it as an instrumental. Enjoy!

Talk about a game that has story! Lordran has become one of my favorite worlds to explore in both the places and lore. This video is a bit long but it's the best full summary I could find. Hope this at least gets you thinking about it and might spur you on to look up more for yourself! :D

Original Sci-Fi Short Story

To Kill a Titan
by Tom Laspisa

DISTRESS SIGNAL 083: COALITION RESEARCH VESSEL PRECURSOR OVERRUN BY MARAUDER FORCES IN ORBIT ABOVE PLANET DRAYZA—083 CLUSTER 16 SECTOR 39 QUADRANT 2. INVALUABLE DATA AND CARGO ABOARD VESSEL. REQUESTING IMMEDIATE MILITARY BACKUP.
The lights were dimmed and the room was chilled. Plates of metal clanked slightly with a sudden lean or cross of the legs. Mission briefing was underway for the small force of Galactic Coalition commandos. And the Captain’s voice was grim.
Each of you is assigned to a Marauder research or harvesting facility on the surface of Drayza. As you know, the Marauders have stolen data from the Precursor and since then have begun invasions of nearby planets, including Terol, Retrin, and Seer.”
Seer was Titan Squad’s home planet.
